WEST KELOWNA - A car fire spread to nearby brush on a private property in Glenrosa this afternoon.

Black smoke poured from a property in a forested area on Gates Road around 12:30 p.m. today, Sept. 18.

Assistant fire chief Darren Lee of West Kelowna Fire Rescue says four cars caught fire, which spread to nearby brush.

Firefighters had to truck water to the scene, aided in part by Peachland Fire Rescue. It appeared that they got it under control by about 1 p.m. as smoke had cleared significantly. A forestry helicopter scouting the area turned away.

There is no home on the property, but as many as a dozen derelict vehicles are on site. It's unclear how the fire started.

The exact cause is under investigation.

If you have any information about this fire, or saw anything suspicious in the area, you are urged to call the West Kelowna RCMP at 250-768-28800. Or remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, leaving a tip online at www.crimestoppers.net or by texting your tip to CRIMES (274637) ktown.
