Police are trying to find the owner of a goat that was filmed being savagely attacked and killed by a pitbull last week.

On Nov. 24, Merritt RCMP were made aware of an online post, which showed a video of a black pitbull violently attacking a white goat inside a house with onlookers standing by and encouraging the attack.

Police were able to identify house on the 2600 block of Granite Avenue and obtained a search warrant under the Criminal Code of Canada and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

The South East District Emergency Response Team and the SPCA searched the property.

Sadly, only the remains of the goat were found.

“We are trying to identify where the goat came from. We would like to determine if the goat was stolen, sold or given away,” said Staff Sergeant Josh Roda in a news release.

The goat had a white body, brown on the top of its head and was wearing a collar in the video.

Anyone with information about the goat is asked to call the Merritt RCMP at 250-378-4262.
