Gairdner winner, 5 others named to the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame

TORONTO - The recently named winner of a prestigious Gairdner award and five other leaders from the field of medicine will be inducted Thursday into the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame.

The inductees are Dr. Salim Yusuf, an expert in the epidemiology of cardiovascular disease, Dr. Max Cynader, a world-renowned neuroscientist and Dr. Adolfo de Bold who is called the father of cardiovascular endocrinology.

Also being inducted are Dr. Jock Murray, a world leader in multiple sclerosis research and care, Dr. Ronald Worton, who discovered the gene for Duchenne muscular dystrophy, and the late Dr. Walter C. Mackenzie, who was instrumental in the development of academic medicine.

Yusuf was recently named this year's recipient of the Canada Gairdner Wightman Award for leadership in global clinical trials and population studies that have shaped prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease.

The Canadian Medical Hall of Fame is in Kingston, Ont.
