Learn about snakes, bats and fire in nature parks speaker series

Snakes are just one of the topics featured in the 2016 nature parks speaker series.

KAMLOOPS - For the second year, the City of Kamloops Natural Resources team is pleased to host a number of talks on local flora and fauna in the Kamloops region. The talks will run every Thursday evening from 6:00-7:00pm in July and August. All sessions, with the exception of the first talk, will be held at the Hillside Amphitheater in Kenna Cartwright Park.  These talks are fun and informative and are geared to everyone. Bring your friends and family and enjoy a free night out.

The topics at each session are as follows:

July 7 - Snakes

Join guest speaker Frank Ritcey as he explores the world of snakes.

***This talk will take place at BC Parks Pine Park in the Tranquille Valley***

July 14 - Tree Jeopardy

Brush up on how to identify different trees then join us for a fun game of Jeopardy with prizes.

July 21 - Fire: Friend or Foe

Learn about the prescribed burns in Kenna Cartwright Park and the Firesmart Community Program.

July 28 - Urban Deer

Come find out everything you need to know about deer and their habits.

August 4 - Wildlife Detective

Become a true detective in nature by learning which tracks and signs belong to animals in our region.

August 11 - Predator Safety

Learn how to prevent predator encounters and how to react if you cross paths.

August 18 - Bats

Bat expert Doug Burles will explain the importance of bats to our environment. Enter to win one of six multi-chamber bat houses.

August 25 - The Night Sky

Learn about the constellations; how to find them; and the myths, legends, and lore behind them.
