KELOWNA - Kelowna Yacht Club will host the 2015 Sail Canada Women’s Keelboat Championships from Oct 1 to Oct 4.
Registration is now open and can be found at www.womenskeelboatchampionships.ca.
The club first hosted this Women’s Championship in 2007.
Over the last eight years, the enthusiasm for women’s sailing has grown by leaps and bounds; more women are coming out every year.
By competing in their own race series, women can enjoy team sport, social interaction and exciting recreational opportunities on Okanagan Lake. Sailboat owners have been tremendously supportive providing boats, coaching and encouragement. The benefits include; more crew willing to race in the regular series, women going on to become yacht club members, introducing friends and family to the sport and also buying their own sailboats!
The importance of this event is described by Co-Chair Gillian Thomson, “I have been involved with hosting sailing events in Kelowna for the past 20 years, and have seen and experienced the many, many benefits to the host club and to our sailing community. I truly believe that the 2015 Sail Canada Women’s Keelboat Championships will expand opportunities for women’s sailing, and that we will see improved sailing and racing skills, as well as increased involvement in other club activities. Experience also shows that this regatta will benefit many clubs and sailors locally, provincially, and nationally.”
The committee looks forward to a successful regatta and warmly welcoming visiting sailors to the beautiful new Kelowna Yacht Club on the shores of Okanagan Lake!
