Kelowna seeking feedback on permanent closure of Knox Mountain to cars

Dozens of cyclist make the hard climb up the mountain every day.

The City of Kelowna is conducting a survey to see how residents would like to see the future of Knox Mountain Drive.

Knox Mountain Drive is currently closed to vehicles due to COVID-19 and the city is assessing the park's future including whether vehicles should be permitted on the roadway and, if so, under what conditions.

Survey responses will be combined with safety analysis, technical road standards, current park usage data and other factors to make a final recommendation to council by early summer, according to a city press release.

The Knox Mountain Drive review is part of a larger project to update the Knox Mountain Park Management Plan, which will continue through 2021 and guide the park’s management during the next 10 years.

The update will include a comprehensive review of the park’s ecological status and amenities, and a work plan to guide the park through the next decade. Project updates can be found on the city's website.

Everyone who completes the survey will be entered into a prize draw to receive one of three The Local Gift Cards, valued at $100, $50 and $50 each.

The survey is open until 8 a.m., Monday, May 31.

Visit the city's website to take the survey and stay updated on the Knox Mountain Park Management Plan.
