Kelowna driver faces drunk driving charge after hitting cop car in Vernon

FILE PHOTO

A Kelowna driver is facing drunk driving charges after he crashed into a Vernon RCMP patrol car last night.

The 28-year-old driver was arrested at around 11:50 p.m. yesterday, Oct. 29, after hitting a police car at the intersection of 32 Street and 30 Avenue in Vernon, according to an RCMP media release.

The driver was making a turn in a small car in the intersection when he clipped the front corner of the cop car.

He reversed and attempted a getaway, but was stopped in a nearby parking lot.

Officers arrested the driver and administered two breathalyzer tests and he blew over twice the legal limit.

RCMP said the Kelowna man has been released from custody and potentially faces charges for a number of driving-related offences.
