KELOWNA - Kelowna city councillor Charlie Hodge is recovering after surgery to remove dead bone from his jaw yesterday afternoon.

The operation, March 1, was the result of an infection in the hard bone as well as soft tissue in his jaw as the result of  from a wisdom tooth operation six weeks ago, according to a statement from Hodge. A titanium plate and screws were put in place in order to mend his jaw.

“If I know Charlie, he will want out as fast as possible so he can check out airport security and see if he can set off the bells and whistles,” his wife Teresa Hodge says in the statement.

Six weeks ago Hodge underwent four operations in which four teeth were removed. However, these procedures did not mend the bone infection.

“I intend to be back at the council table soon and enjoying this wonderful world we live in with a smile, though perhaps sans a few more teeth,” Hodge says.

Doctors think Charlie will be hospital for several days recovering, Teresa says.
