Kelowna Chiefs squeak out OT win against Steam

KELOWNA -  Levi Johnson scored the game winner and his first KIJHL goal as the Kelowna Chiefs defeated the Summerland Steam.

Kelowna held on for a 6 – 5 overtime victory against the Steam on Saturday December 21st.

Nick Josephs (3G, 2A) started things off in the first period and would go on to net two more for a hat-trick by the end of the match. 

The Chiefs were up 5 – 3 over the Steam after 40 minutes of play when Summerland fought with everything they had left in the third period.  The Steam took advantage of the powerplay, scoring twice, tying up the game 5 – 5 and forcing overtime.

Then with :03 seconds left in the extra period, Levi Johnson scored on the powerplay for the 6 – 5 victory and his first career KIJHL goal.

Also adding goals for the Chiefs was Nick Headrick and Matt Naka.

Colton Dachwitz picked up two assists in the victory while Tyler O’Donnell faced 33 shots between the pipes.

The Kelowna Chiefs enter the Christmas break riding a three game win streak.  The team is back in action on Saturday January 4th when the Chiefs welcome the Grand Forks Border Bruins to Rutland Arena.
