Travellers will be able to fly in and out of the Kelowna International Airport without wildfire restriction as of today.

After partially lifting restrictions yesterday, the airport announced today, Aug. 25, that the majority of airspace restrictions implemented by Transport Canada have been lifted.

The airport was closed to commercial flights to keep the airspace clear for aircraft fighting the wildfires in the region.

“Thank you to all the emergency personnel who are continuing to work 24/7. I would also like to thank our passengers for their patience and support of the firefighting activities required to protect our community.” Sam Samaddar, CEO of the airport, said in a media release.

“The ability of our airspace to reopen allows YLW to once again provide passengers a vital connection to the Okanagan region.”
