Sun Peaks Resort near Kamloops is getting a new high-speed detachable quad chairlift.

The new four-person chairlift will go to an area of Tod Mountain previously only accessible by hiking in. It's the third lift to be build at the resort north of Kamloops in the past six years, according to a Sun Peaks news release.

The West Bowl Express will cost $12 million, replacing the retired decades-old T-bar that closed for the 2020/2021 season. Since then, the west bowl was a hike-in only area, similar to the Gil's section.

"Sun Peaks continues to evolve and this significant new lift infrastructure will diversify the experience in an important pod of terrain in the resort," Darcy Alexander with the resort said in the release. "Guests will have additional trails and vertical to explore with the convenience and efficiency of detachable lift technology.”

Construction has started but the new Doppelmayr lift won't be ready until the 2024/2025 season.

The resort said it will provide more details on its chairlift construction including renderings and updated trail maps in the coming months.

Past projects at the resort included the new Orient chairlift, the Crystal chair replacement and expansion of the Sundance Express for bike access to new trails.
