Kamloops residents can now renew dog licences online

KAMLOOPS - Dog licence renewals are due next month and though renewal reminders are in the mail they may be delayed by Canada Post service interruptions.

Technological improvements at the city have made it possible to provide residents with an online option for dog licence registration and payment, according to a City of Kamloops media release. This new self-serve option provides a more streamlined process for residents and increased efficiencies in the city’s Bylaw Services Division.

Dog licence renewals are due Jan. 31. For new licences, residents must complete a registration form with details on their dog. The city will then provide an account number and access code for residents to register their licence account online using the MyCity app. Payment may be made through MyCity using Visa or MasterCard. Visa debit cards are not accepted at this time.

For licence renewals, notices will contain all of the information required to create or access online accounts and complete payment. Once payment is received, the city will mail out 2019 dog tags.

In addition to the online system, new licence registrations, renewals, and cash or debit payments can also be completed in person at City Hall. They can also be done at the Bylaw Services Centre at 1303 Mission Flats Rd. Effective January 1, 2019, dog licences will no longer be available for purchase through retail outlets.

Within city limits, all dogs age six months or older require a licence. A dog licence helps you reunite with your dog if they are lost anywhere in the world. Dog licence fees not only support the return of pets to their owners, they assist in the adoption of homeless pets every year. Fees also pay for education and enforcement of the city’s Dog Responsibility and Control Bylaw, as well as the cost of creating and maintaining dog parks.

For more information on dog licensing or to complete an online registration, go to Kamloops.ca/Dogs. Questions about dog licencing and responsible pet ownership can be directed to Bylaw Services at 250-828-3409.
