Kamloops driver ticketed twice in 45 minutes for distracted driving

KAMLOOPS - A driver in Kamloops has, hopefully, learned to put down the phone when driving after an expensive lesson.

Yesterday, March 27, a Kamloops RCMP officer stopped a vehicle when he saw the driver using his phone, detachment spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says.

The driver was issued a ticket for $368. Approximately 45 minutes later — and just a few blocks away — the same officer saw the same driver using his cell phone again, and another traffic stop was conducted.

The driver was issued a second violation ticket for the same amount, Shelkie says.

Including all of the point penalties on his driver's licence, the tickets could cost him $1,431. His driver's licence may also be reviewed by the superintendent of motor vehicles and he could face a possible prohibition from driving.
