KELOWNA - As part of their summer training in the Okanagan, the Junior Canadian Rangers will take to the clouds above Okanagan Lake this week.

In the coming days expect to see military helicopters in the sky, to train young cadets in the air.

"The helicopters are out today, tomorrow and the next day," says public affairs officer Captain Steven Parker.

"The Griffon helicopters are based out of Edmonton usually, but we invited them to come and do some stuff with youth," he says, including drills and emergency scenarios.

The Junior Canadian Rangers allows kids in northern and isolated communities to participate in an off-shoot of the cadets. Every year the Vernon Army Cadet Training Centre holds a summer camp for the youth.

Stevens says they're required to put out a public notice when using the airspace, in the event "people get worried that maybe something is going on."

Following their helicopter training the cadets will head to Bennett's ranch, a small military training area just outside of Kelowna.
