PENTICTON - The mayoral race just got a little tougher with local business owner Jukka Laurio filing to become the third candidate.
Laurio is no stranger to city politics, having run for mayor in 2011, but he says he’s more focused this time around.
“I’m going to give Penticton a job,” he says.
He explained that every city has a main industry that brings in jobs, economic development and people, and in Penticton it’s tourism.
The city needs to be beautified and redesigned so it can host festivals and large tourism-related events, he says, and there needs to be a reason to invite people here, which will then generate revenue.
He says he wants to be mayor because he has a vision that he believes will benefit the community.
Laurio will be running against current council members, Andrew Jakubeit and John Vassilaki.
