Improvised explosive device found on route near University of Northern B.C.

PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. - Mounties in Prince George, B.C., had to shut down one of the main routes into the University of Northern B.C. after the discovery of an improvised explosive device.

The device was found near a garbage can when officers responded to complaints of gun shots being fired Tuesday night in the area of University Way.

The RCMP's Explosive Disposal Unit was flown in from Vancouver and the device was destroyed.

The route was reopened just before noon Wednesday.

There's no indication where the device may have come from, but police say a person on a bicycle was spotted in the same area were the explosive device was found.

Police are hoping witnesses may help in identifying that person.
