Hold onto your books—the Vernon library is closed due to flooding

The Vernon library is closed until further notice due to flooding.

VERNON - It’s the one week you won’t be charged late fees for overdue books.

The Okanagan Regional Library is asking the public to hold onto borrowed books after a water pipe burst Monday night at the year-and-a-half old Vernon branch.

Library spokesperson Michele Rule says the damage is around the book drop area on the building’s main floor. Carpets, furniture and books may have to be replaced.

The library could be closed down for the rest of the week, and all programs have been cancelled while restoration workers clean things up.

How the pipe burst isn’t known, but Rule says the library is covered by insurance.

During the closure, she’s encouraging the public to visit nearby branches in Armstrong, Falkland and Lumby.
