KELOWNA - Highway 97 will be widened to six lanes from Highway 33 to Edward Road in Kelowna, the province has announced, and a local company will do the work.
The four-kilometre long project will begin construction this spring and is scheduled for completion fall 2017, the transportation ministry said in a media release.
The $60-million project actually began last year with the realignment of Finns Road and will continue this year with the $36-million sub contract awarded to Emil Anderson Construction Inc. a Kelowna company.
Both the federal and provincial governments are funding the project with B.C. paying $41.5 million and Ottawa putting in $18 million through the Building Canada Fund.
