Give your property a 20 minute makeover

KELOWNA - Do you have 20 minutes to spare to make a difference in your community? At 10 a.m. on Wednesday April 1st the Regional Waste Reduction Office challenges you to give just twenty minutes of your time to the 20 Minute Make-Over – a community-wide  spring clean-up blitz.

“The 20 Minute Make Over kick starts Community Clean Up month for all of April,” says Waste Reduction Facilitator Rae Stewart. “The challenge: take just 20 minutes of your day on Wednesday April 1st at 10am, and do a little spring cleaning in your neighborhood or place of work. It’s a great way to spend a coffee break doing something positive for the community. You decide how you want to pitch in, by picking up   trash, sweeping a sidewalk, busting graffiti, there’s lots to choose from!”

The Regional Waste Reduction Office provides free garbage bags and gloves for anyone collecting litter. They’ll even arrange to have the garbage-filled bags picked up and taken to the landfill after your clean-up is done. Graffiti busting kits are also available for pick up.

Stewart adds, “This is the kind of feel good event anyone at any age can get involved in.  The 20 minute factor is ideal if you’re on a tight schedule. It’s easy enough to gather a group together-your classmates,  coworkers, neighbors, friends, or family and head outside for some fresh air, exercise, elbow grease and some light spring cleaning. It’s also inspiring knowing you’ll be joining the hundreds of people across our community helping to make a difference. Over the last few years, literally thousands of people across our community have taken part in this event!”

To register your group for garbage bags and gloves, and for pick up of your litter- filled bags when your clean-up is complete, contact the Regional Waste Reduction Office before March 31 at 250-469-6250.
