KAMLOOPS - As fall begins and the year winds down, local firefighters already have next year top of mind with the release of the Kamloops Firefighter's Charitable Society 2016 calendar.

Cory Poirier, a local firefighter and coordinator for the project, says this year the society went with a different photographer and graphic designer to try a new vision.

“(Photographer) Kelly Funk and I talked over ideas and looked at prior calendars,” he says. “(This year) they’re gritty and raw. Each picture was kind of what the firefighter wants. Kelly worked with each individual firefighter."

While there’s only 2,000 printed calendars available, Poirier says the society is looking at ways to sell them online in future years. Each calendar is $20 and will be for sale at the firehall at 1205 Summit Dr.

Poirier says the calendar launch party will take place Sept. 23 at 6 p.m. at Chances Casino on the North Shore. There will be a live band, calendar signings by geared up firefighters and a raffle.

Proceeds will be split to donate to the Royal Inland Hospital and the burn ward located on the Lower Mainland.
