Garage fire stopped in its tracks

KELOWNA - Firefighters stopped a Kelowna garage fire from spreading early Thursday morning.

The fire was called in around 2:15 a.m. in the 800 block of Francis Ave. By the time they arrived the garage was fully involved, the roof collapsed and a van next to it was on fire. The heat damaged part of the neighbours home, bushes and recycling bins but firefighters held it there, according to Platoon Capt. Laurie Serres.

Two engines, one rescue truck, one command Unit and 11 firefighters responded to the scene. An investigation will attempt to determine the cause but it does not appear to be suspicious, Serres said.
