KAMLOOPS - Thompson Rivers University’s future is going to be up for public discussion.
A public hearing on the rezoning will be May 17 at 7 p.m. at city council chambers, says development supervisor Eric Beach.
After a short discussion city council approved a motion to take an application to rezone the university to a public hearing at the April 26 meeting. Development director Marvin Kwiatkowski told council the university would be holding its own open houses about the university’s future.
The rezoning application is an effort by the Thompson Rivers University Trust to create a more urban character feeling at the university, with the potential for commercial developments and more diverse residential housing according to the trust's appilcation.
