CALGARY – The Western Hockey League announced today that former WHL and CIS player Kirt Hill, a former member of the Kelowna Rockets, has been appointed to the position of WHL Manager of Player Development at Recruitment at the WHL Office in Calgary.

As WHL Manager of Player Development and Recruitment, Hill will be responsible to manage new player development initiatives and implement the WHL league-wide player recruitment programs. Hill’s responsibilities will also include coordinating the WHL involvement in a series of player prospects camps held each year in Western Canada and the U.S while continuing to enhance working relationships with hockey organizations at the local and regional levels. Hill’s duties will also include administering the WHL Alumni Association.

“I am honored to have been selected for this role with the Western Hockey League,” commented Hill. “I have a lot of great memories from my playing days in the WHL and am excited about the opportunity to be involved with the league again. I look forward to working with WHL prospects and hockey organizations across Western Canada and the U.S.”

Hill played 4 seasons in the WHL splitting his time with the Kelowna Rockets and the Regina Pats from 2004-08. A recipient of the WHL Scholarship, Kirt is a recent graduate of the University of Waterloo with a Bachelor’s Degree with Honours in Recreation and Sport Business.  Kirt played 4 seasons with the Waterloo University hockey team and was a recipient of the Randy Gregg CIS Award for outstanding achievement in hockey, academics and community involvement.  Kirt also won a gold medal with Team Western at the 2005 World Under 17 Challenge.

“We are very pleased to have Kirt join our Western Hockey League staff,” said WHL Commissioner, Ron Robison. “ We believe Kirt’s experience as a former Canadian University player and a recipient of the WHL Scholarship, make him ideally suited to manage our development programs and deliver key messages to young prospects on the benefits of playing in the WHL.”

Kirt joins the WHL after spending the past year with the NHL’s Ottawa Senators Marketing Department.
