KAMLOOPS - After leaving his position as publisher at the North Thompson Star Journal, Al Kirkwood is now facing child pornography charges.

According to court documents, Kirkwood has been charged with one count each of importing or distributing child pornography and possession of child pornography.

The charges stem from incidents in July and October.

A Star Journal employee told iNFOnews.ca last month that Kirkwood had left his position as publisher at the paper, but wouldn't confirm if he resigned or was terminated. He was also the fire chief at the volunteer fire department in Barriere.

Kirkwood is expected to appear in Kamloops Provincial Court next month.
