Fog continues to delay, cancel flights at Kamloops airport

KAMLOOPS - Fog is delaying, or in some cases cancelling, flights in and out of the Kamloops airport today.

The freezing fog is causing reduced visibility in the valley around the Kamloops Airport today, Dec. 28, meaning flights in and out of the city have been delayed indefinitely, airport manager Fred Legace says.

“It is not safe to land airplanes in this weather,” he says. “It’s being rather persistent.”

Legace say there’s no estimated time for operations to return to normal, as the fog doesn’t seem to be moving out quickly, though he is hoping some wind will help clear out the valley at some point.

“It’s entirely up to Mother Nature,” he says.

No flights have landed or left Kamloops today.

Some Air Canada flights have been cancelled, while others have been delayed. The best way to find information about a specific flight is to call your air carrier or go to its website, Legace says, as the airlines will have the most up-to-date information on the flights they operate.

Legace says more flights may be cancelled, depending on the fog's movement, or lack of movement.

Unfortunately the cancellations and delays are happening during what Legace says is the busiest time of the year for the airport, between Christmas and New Year's.

“These are not good days to have this weather,” he says.
