The Kamloops airport is getting its first discount airline with flights to and from Edmonton three times per week.

Edmonton-based Flair Airlines will start flying between the two cities on June 15, which is the first direct flight between them since 2016, according to a Flair news release issued today, Feb. 10.

“We are excited to connect residents of Kamloops and Edmonton, who deserve direct, non-stop flights rather than connecting through Vancouver or Calgary,” Flair president and CEO, Stephen Jones, said in the release.

One-way tickets from Kamloops to Edmonton start as low as $29 per flight, which includes a bag up to seven kilograms. Prices then go up depending on additional baggage and "add-ons," according to the website.

"The Kamloops to Edmonton route has long been on the community’s air service wish list, and with air service development support from Vantage, Kamloops Airport’s management company, this service is being realized," Ed Ratuski with the airport said in the release.

The airline currently has flights to and from 35 cities in Canada, the U.S. and Mexico.

“What a fantastic opportunity to increase affordability and accessibility to folks travelling to and from Kamloops and Edmonton,” Kamloops Mayor Reid Hamer-Jackson said in the release. “Whether it be for business or pleasure this could potentially increase visitors to both of our great cities. This is an example of positive economic growth.”

Flights can be booked on the Flair website here.
