FLOOD WATCH 2017: Evacuation order issued to 21 homes in the Upper Nicola community

FILE PHOTO

MERRITT – Twenty-one homes and 51 people in the Upper Nicola community were evacuated yesterday morning.

One home and four RV parks were issued an evacuation order because of high water, according to a release from the Upper Nicola Indian Band.

Water levels in the Upper Nicola River are starting to go down and officials do not expect to see them rise again.

Those evacuated can access emergency services at the emergency operations centre at the Upper Nicola Health office.

This latest order comes after 27 homes and 99 people living near Nicola Lake Indian Reserve #1 are still under evacuation alert.

Anyone with questions about the alert should call the Emergency Centre at 250-278-5914.
