A large plume of smoke and flames could be seen this morning coming from an auto recycling shop in the small Shuswap community of Chase.

Witnesses first reported the fire at Adrenaline Auto Recycling this morning, Jan. 21.

Images shared of social media of the fire show flames and smoke at the recycling shop on Aylmer Road.

Chase Fire Chief Brian Lauzon said crews received a call regarding the fire at roughly 5:30 a.m.

Firefighters arrived on scene to find 20 to 30 vehicles on fire as well as two storage sheds.

At 10:30 a.m., the fire was contained and firefighters were moping up the fire, separating vehicles to find hotspots.

The cause of the fire is unknown and with so many vehicles burning when crews arrived, the area where the fire started is hard to determine, Lauzon said.

Neighbouring vehicles were also burned, he said.

The fire was roughly the size of a basketball court before it was contained.

Firefighters were also called in from Pritchard, Adams Lake and Little Shuswap Indian Band as the number of firefighters was low at the Chase Fire Department.
