KAMLOOPS – A fire along the Rivers Trail last night, June 28, engulfed the bush along the river and took 12 firefighters about two hours to extinguish the blaze.

Deputy Fire Chief Mike Adams says dispatch received a call around 10 p.m. of a fire near Schubert Drive and Windsor Avenue and crews from the North Shore were on scene within a few minutes.

A total of 12 firefighters were on scene to extinguish the blaze. They remained on site until after midnight when the scene was finally cleared. Four firefighters remained on scene after the scene was cleared as a precautionary measure.

Adams says the fire originated near the river and engulfed nearby trees and shrubs but did not threaten any structures.

Adams speculates it may have been human carelessness though says they are not sure what caused the blaze just yet. Investigators are currently on the scene and Adams say more information is expected to come later today.
