LUMBY - A man working at a business in Lumby was killed in an industrial accident this morning.
RCMP say officers and emergency crews responded to the industrial business on Bell Avenue just after 10 a.m. today, Jan. 27.
WorkSafe B.C. was notified just after 11 a.m. and has sent two prevention officers to the site, spokesperson Scott McCloy says.
“It’s early hours in the investigation at this point,” McCloy says.
The name of the business has not been released.
“The early indications are it was a log sorting yard. Beyond that the details are sketchy at this point,” McCloy says.
The goal of WorkSafe’s investigation is to determine what happened, why it happened and how it can be prevented from happening again in the future, McCloy says.
“It’s a tragedy when a worker dies,” McCloy says. “It’s difficult for any family in any town, (and) it’s particularly difficult in a small town.”
Police, WorkSafe B.C. and the B.C. Coroners Service continue to investigate.
