Families displaced after fire rips through Kamloops apartment complex

KAMLOOPS - An early morning fire at a North Shore apartment complex has displaced several families.

The fire occurred at an Elizabeth Fry Society owned building at 873 Westminster Ave. around 2 a.m. today, June 1.

The building has six suites and they all had to be evacuated, Kamloops Fire Rescue Capt. Dave Ferguson says.

He says one of the firefighters on the scene commented a lot of young mothers with children were outside the building when he arrived. Emergency Social Services took care of the occupants while firefighters dealt with the fire.

Ferguson says it doesn’t appear that anyone was hurt.

Fire investigators are on scene this morning, though Kamloops RCMP Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says arson is not suspected.
