PENTICTON –The Penticton Vees Jr. ‘A’ Hockey Club is pleased to announce defenseman Dante Fabbro (98) and forward Tyson Jost (98), have both been named to the Team Canada’s Under-18 team for the 2015 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup.

Fabbro and Jost are only one of three sets of teammates to be named to the 22-man roster, with the Brandon Wheat Kings (three) and Calgary Hitmen (two), the other two teams with multiple representatives.

The Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup has been held annually since 1991, with the tournament first being staged in Japan; the tournament moved to the Czech Republic and Slovakia in 1997. The tournament runs August 10th-15th and is split between two host cities Breclav, Czech Republic, and Bratislava, Slovakia.

Jost, who will Captain the Vees in 2015-2016, had a terrific rookie season in the BCHL last year. The then 16-year-old averaged nearly a point per-game in the regular season, with 23 goals and 45 points in 46 games*. Those numbers garnered league-wide recognition, as he was named to the BCHL All-Rookie team. He didn’t miss a beat in the post-season, scoring a team-best 10 goals in 21 playoff games, en route to a Fred Page Cup Championship. Jost continued his dominance at the Western Canada Cup (WCC), compiling five goals and six points as the Vees won their first ever WCC Championship. Jost was named the tournament’s Top Forward and Top Scorer, helping guide the Vees to an RBC Cup berth in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.

Fabbro will wear an ‘A’ for the Vees this season and he too had a very impressive rookie campaign with the one season ago. As a 16-year-old, he was the third-highest scoring defensemen on the Vees roster, compiling 33 points in 44 games*. His regular season efforts earned him a spot on the BCHL All-Rookie team alongside Jost. Despite his age, Fabbro excelled on the blue-line in the playoffs, as he was the team’s highest scoring defenseman, notching 15 points in 21 games.  His play didn’t dip on the national stage, as he picking up three points in five games at the RBC Cup and was named the tournament’s Top Defenseman.

Canada has won gold for the past seven years at the Ivan Hlinka Cup and is the all-time winningest country at the tournament, owning 19 gold medals and they have only finished outside of the medals twice in the tournament’s 24-year history.

The Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup showcases the top draft eligible players from Europe and North America. Team Canada opens the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup on August 10th, against the Czechs.

*Fabbro and Jost missed 12 regular season games due to international duty at the World Under-17 Challenge and the World Junior ‘A’ Challenge.
