Evacuation order issued for areas in and around Clearwater

KAMLOOPS – Evacuation orders have been issued for addresses in the District of Clearwater and East Blackpool area.

The district's evacuation order says the rapidly moving wildfire south of Clearwater is threatening properties in the area.

There's potential danger to life and health, so the District of Clearwater has ordered everyone to evacuate the following properties immediately:

• 415 to 480 Clearwater Station Road
• 91 to 566 Dunn Lake Road
• 524 Russel Road

Any properties located within the red evacuation order area, as shown on the attached map, must also evacuate.

The order was issued at 8 p.m. last night, July 15. People affected by this order are being directed to emergency support service centres at the Sandman Centre in Kamloops or the Clearwater Legion Hall at 257 Glen Rd. in Clearwater.

The Interior Health Authority has evacuated the majority of facilities in Clearwater, according to a press release.

"This evacuation of Dr. Helmcken Memorial Hospital is for hospital patients, and individuals residing in Forest View Place," the release states. "The evacuation does not affect other hospital operations at this time – the Emergency Department remains open."

Acute care patients were sent to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops. Forest View Place residents have been taken to locations in Kamloops and Salmon Arm.

"Community-based services remain in place for individuals who require them. However, IH staff are assessing the health care needs of these clients to determine if any individuals should proactively be relocated at this time," states the release.

The Thompson Nicola Regional District also issued an evacuation order for East Blackpool last night at 7:30 p.m.

The district says properties in the Electoral Area "A" must evacuate immediately, which includes properties from 950 to 1936 Dunn Lake Road. Additionally, all properties located within the red evacuation order area, as shown on the attached map, must leave.

An interactive map shows where all the current evacuation orders and alerts have been issued in the regional district can be found here and any new information from the districts can be found here. The latest orders are along the south of Clearwater.
