WHO WON IN VERNON, ARMSTRONG, SPALLUMCHEEN, COLDSTREAM, ENDERBY AND SALMON ARM
NORTH OKANAGAN - Voters have chosen new councils, school trustees and regional district representatives.
In Vernon, voters kept four councillors, welcomed in two new ones, and chose a new face to represent them as mayor. Political newcomer Akbal Mund is Vernon's new mayor.
There's been a major shift at the Vernon School District. Longtime board chair Bill Turanski was beaten by Robert Lee 1160 to 1023.
Chris Pieper was already acclaimed as mayor of Armstrong.
In the Township of Spallumcheen, voters chose to keep Mayor Janice Brown for another four years. She beat Will Hansma 711 votes to 445. The city’s councillors are Andrew Casson, Christine Fraser, Ed Hanoski, Christine Lemaire, Joe Van Tienhoven, and Todd York.
The City of Enderby will see former councillor Greg McCune rise to mayor. He beat incumbent mayor Howie Cyr by a slim margin—568 to 356.
Rick Fairbairn will continue representing electoral Area D on the North Okanagan Regional District board. He beat competitor Huguette Allen by 264 votes. Meanwhile, Jackie Pearase will be giving up Electoral Area F to Herman Halvorson, who won by 100 votes. There was no competition for regional district directors Bob Fleming (Area B), Mike Macnabb (Area C) and Hank Cameron (Area E) and they were elected by acclamation.
