Driver jumps curb and smashes car into Penticton storefront

Workers make repairs to the storefront of First Choice Haircutters after a vehicle jumped the curb and entered the store on Monday, Sept. 26, 2016.

PENTICTON - Patrons of a Penticton haircutting establishment were fortunate to escape without injury after a vehicle crashed through the front window of the store yesterday.

Police spokesperson Rick Dellebuur says around 11:20 a.m., Sept. 26, a 91-year-old man drove a Toyota Camry over the curb and into the front door and window at First Choice Haircutters at 2210 Main St.

Dellebuur says it was fortunate no one was hurt, although the driver was taken to hospital for evaluation.

The store suffered significant damage to the front window, door and window frame.

The incident was the second of its kind in less than a month.

On Wednesday, Sept. 7, police say a woman failed to stop in front of Britannia Pies at 78 Industrial Ave., jumping the curb and smashing through the plate glass window.

The woman suffered minor injuries.

Police say health factors were possible contributors to the collision and the driver is subject to a driving review.
