Double OT victory for Kelowna Chiefs

KELOWNA - A come from behind, double overtime victory for Rutland’s very own Kelowna Chiefs.

Fans got their money's worth as the Chiefs rallied to defeat the Beaver Valley Nitehawks 7 – 6 at Rutland Arena Friday night.

Nicholas Gnazdowsky (2G) opened up scoring at 10:19 in the first period and quickly followed with a second goal at 8:27.

Beaver Valley would score before the first 20 minutes of play wrapped up to make the game 2 – 1.

The second period wasn’t a good one for the Chiefs as the Nitehawks dominated with four goals to take a 5 – 2 lead.  Scoring for Beaver Valley was Nathan Pickett, Mitch Foyle, Fraser Stang and Michael Bell.

It was in the final 20 minutes of play when the Chiefs would give everything they had left.

Nick Josephs (4G, 1A) would score at 17:28 on the power-play.  Beaver Valley would sneak one past Tyler O’Donnell in net but that didn’t discourage the Chiefs.  If anything it fueled their hunger for victory.

Jagger Bowles added one on the power-play as well, then Josephs would go on to score two more to tie up the game.

The match-up moved into overtime with no scoring.  And in the second overtime period, which featured three on three hockey Josephs would add his fourth of the night.

O’Donnell was rock solid in net facing 33 shots on goal.  Adding assists on the night for the Chiefs was Alex Gran, Mathew Naka, Nicholas Kovacik (2A), Brady Mende and Nick Headrick.

Up next for your Kelowna Chiefs, a home game against the Revelstoke Grizzlies on Saturday November 2nd.  Puck drops at 7PM.
