Culinary finalists confirmed to compete in Kelowna

KELOWNA - Chefs are will spend months preparing for the culinary championships taking place in Kelowna early next year.

A release from Canadian Culinary Championships says they have confirmed the finalists that will compete in a two-day event in Kelowna.

There are 11 chefs that won gold in their regional qualifier competitions across Canada that will travel to Kelowna for the championships from Feb. 2-3, 2018.

The competitors that will compete are: 

  • British Columbia's Alex Chen from Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar, Vancouver
  • Edmonton's Shane Chartrand from SAGE
  • Blake Flann from BLAKE from Canmore in Calgary
  • Wild Sage Kitchen & Bar's David Vinoya from Regina
  • Saskatoon's James McFarland from the University of Saskatchewan
  • Sous Sol's Mike Robins from Winnipeg
  • Toronto's George Restaurant chef Lorenzo Loseto
  • Briana Kim, Café My House, From Ottawa,
  • Montreal's Éric Gonzalez from L’Atelier Joël Robuchon
  • Nova Scotia's Barry Mooney from Gio
  • St. John’s Nick Jewczyk from The Fifth Ticket

“We are thrilled to announce this talented line-up of chefs who will be making their way to Kelowna in February,” comments Karen Blair, Co-Founder and Director of Operations and Sponsorship, Gold Medal Plates and Canadian Culinary Championships. “Guests will witness their talent come to life during the three competitions."

Chefs will have a minimal budget and must compete in timed competitions while preparing food for hundreds of people.

There will be a variety of tickets such as three event package options which includes the Friday Mystery Wine Pairing Competition, the Black Box Competition or the Saturday Grand Finale featuring musical entertainment by Neil Osborne of 54/40 and MC Olympic Gold Medalist in Ski Cross, Ashleigh McIvor.
