KELOWNA - Crews working on the Huckleberry wildfire over night took advantage of calm winds and cooler temperatures to stay ahead of the Huckleberry wildfire in Joe Rich keeping it entirely contained, officials say.

The fire has not grown since it started Friday, July 3, according a 8 a.m. release by the emergency operations centre. No structures have been lost but despite 114 homes being lifted from the evacuation order, 28 remain.

An aerial photo from B.C. Wildfire shows how quickly a fire can spread and threaten homes. The fire clearly started off Highway 33, likely from vehicle traffic and burned into higher elevations.

RCMP members continue to restrict access to evacuated areas and report no concerns. For a detailed map of areas under evacuation order and alert, visit cordemergency.ca.
