KAMLOOPS - A fatal crash just west of Chase closed the highway in both directions for several hours Thursday.

Three vehicles were involved in the crash on Highway 1, five kilometres west of Chase, according to an RCMP media release. An eastbound logging truck and westbound car collided, leading to another collision when a tractor-trailer hit the overturned logging truck.

B.C. Ambulance Service confirms a ground ambulance was dispatched to the scene. Two truck drivers were transported to hospital in Salmon Arm with non-life-threatening injuries.

RCMP say the man driving the car was dead at the scene. The coroner service was also called to the scene.

Mounties say alcohol doesn't appear to have been a factor in the collision.

The highway was closed in both directions as police investigated. It reopened just before 1 p.m.
