The Funtastic Music Festival and Slo Pitch tournament in Vernon has been cancelled for the second year in a row with organizers citing the COVID-19 pandemic and the associated restrictions as the reason why.

Funtastic has been held in Vernon for more than 35 years with the money raised going back into the community.

Society president Darcy Sochan said in a media release cancelling the 2021 event was a decision no one wants to make.

“We tried to hold off  as long as we could, but under the current circumstances, it’s the right decision the board had to make for the safety of everyone and the community,” Sochan said in the release.

Funtastic events in Enderby and Port Alberni have also been cancelled.

The society is hoping for the community will buy raffle tickets to raise money for the Funtastic Community Grant program again this year. The society is looking to raise up to $30,000 for non-profit sports groups and sports-related projects.

Go here to buy tickets.

“We all look forward to hosting the event next year and seeing everyone again," Sochan said.

The music festival and ball tournament is scheduled for June 30 to July 3, 2022.
