A couple lost their dog in a car accident between Revelstoke and the Nakusp Ferry late last night and they are appealing to the public for help.

Mason Skulsh of Prince George and his girlfriend Danae Robicheau from Nakusp were driving roughly 20 minutes away from Revelstoke when they hit a patch of black ice last night, Nov. 15, causing the vehicle to veer in and out of the opposite lane before slamming into a ditch and bouncing back onto the road.

“It’s hard to remember, we turned into the other lane and I think I tried to turn back into our lane,” Robicheau said. “The next thing we were rolling, and then I woke up and we were sitting in a crashed car.”

That’s when the couple realized their eight-month-old Great Pyrenees puppy called Daisy was no longer in the car and nowhere to be found.

Robicheau was picked up by ambulance and is currently recovering at Vernon Jubilee Hospital with a broken leg. Skulsh, who sustained broken knuckles in the accident, is at her side until he leaves for Kelowna to have surgery tomorrow.

Being far away from the site the dog went missing has them both “worried sick” and they're asking drivers on Highway 23 between Revelstoke and Nakusp to keep an eye open for the dog and contact them with any sightings or information.

“We’ve had a couple people say they’ve seen her but they haven’t been able to catch her,” Robicheau said. “She’s very friendly but shy, and probably very frightened, she's all we are thinking about right now."

The couple is considering hiring a professional dog catcher.

Anyone who sees the dog can contact Skulsh at 250-613-6135.
