VERNON - A Corvette was impounded and a driver is facing two charges after he put the pedal to the metal in Vernon.
RCMP say on Nov. 17 the driver of a red 2015 Corvette pulled onto Highway 97 from 27 Street in Vernon and quickly accelerated to 160 km/h in a 90 km/h zone. A nearby police officer watched this happen and pulled the car over.
The driver now faces charges of excessive speeding and failure to produce a drivers licence, according to a RCMP media release. The car was impounded for seven days.
Police are taking the opportunity to remind drivers that high speeds are dangerous and police are watching.
“Driving that fast makes you a danger to yourself and everyone else around you," Cst. Dobernigg says in the release. "We take excessive speeding very seriously, and you never know where we might be."
