KAMLOOPS — We can expect to see construction in the coming months with the announcement of the company who will design and build the new Clinical Services Building at Royal Inland Hospital.
The Interior Health Authority announced Friday Bird Construction Inc. has been selected from the shortlist of three proponents. The company will be completing the final designs and overseeing construction of the new facility.
“The community has looked forward to this project for a long time, and I’m pleased to see next steps being taken,” said Fraser-Nicola MLA Jackie Tegart. “Royal Inland Hospital is a vital component in the health care services provided for Kamloops and area residents.”
Site preparation has been completed and construction, which will take about two years to complete, is expected to begin this spring. The cost of the nearly $80 million project will be shared by the province and the Thompson Regional Hospital District.
The Clinical Services Building will provide expanded space for medical outpatient services, clinical education and the UBC medical school. As well, there will be more parking and a pedestrian bridge between the new building to the main hospital.
