Concerning online behaviour prompts hold and secure at Vernon high school

A secondary school in Vernon was placed under a hold and secure this afternoon in response to reports of concerning online behaviour.

Police immediately attended the school to support the safety measures and to conduct an investigation into the report after being notified by School District 22 staff at approximately 1:30p.m. today, Nov. 17, according to an RCMP media release.

RCMP do not say which high school in Vernon was impacted.

As additional information became available, investigators conducted a thorough assessment of the situation and determined there was no credible threat to the safety of the students.

The hold and secure was lifted and normal activities resumed just after 3 p.m.

“The safety of our students will always be our first priority,” said Const. Neil Horne, School Resource Officer for the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP, in the release. “In response to any concerning behaviour or potential threat, all necessary steps will be taken to ensure the safety of our schools.”

An investigation into the incident is ongoing at this time.
