Coldstream municipal hall, elementary school closed due to gas spill

COLDSTREAM - An incident has forced a sudden closure of the Coldstream municipal hall.

According to a media release from the District of Coldstream, an overnight gas spill in the vicinity of the Coldstream municipal office, the building is closed until further notice. The gas spill happened at the Centex Gas Station on Kalamalka Lake Road. 

The municipal hall was to be used for advance voting for the arena referendum today, Wednesday Nov. 25, but due to the closure, members of the public are being redirected to voting stations at the Regional District of North Okanagan on Aberdeen Road, or Vernon City Hall on 30 Street.

The spill has also led to the closure of Coldstream Elementary for the day. A notice on the school's website states the Medical Health Officer and Ministry of Environment closed the school. 

The Centex Gas Station is currenty closed, however the business says the spill is contained and they are in the process of getting it cleaned up. The gas station declined to provide further information about the spill. 

The Ministry of Environment is at the scene.
