Coldstream Creek fire near Ashcroft mapped at 250 hectares

ASHCROFT - A lightning-caused wildfire between Ashcroft and Logan Lake has been mapped at 250 hectares while residents at 28 properties nearby are under evacuation alert.

Kayla Pepper, a fire information officer with B.C. Wildfire, says the fire west of Coldstream Creek was estimated at 600 ha last night July 20 but once crews mapped the area it was discovered the fire was actually burning 250 ha.

Crews discovered the fire around 1 p.m. on Monday. Kelsey Winter with B.C. Wildfire says 250 crews were on site overnight. Two 20-people sustained action crews, two initial attack crews and two helicopters are set to deploy today. An incident management team was requested as well.

Winter says prevailing winds blew flames away from threatened properties but an evacuation alert remains in effect for properties on North Road, Landon Road, 4515 and 4525 Highway 97C.

Crews are also battling several other wildfires of note in the Southern Interior, including one near West Kelowna and a six-hectare fire near Falkland.
