City of Vernon asks drivers to avoid street parking after snowfall

VERNON - While the Okanagan has only had a taste of snow so far this month, the winter season is around the corner and the City of Vernon is reminding residents about vehicle parking rules during snow clean-up.

In a press release, the City of Vernon outlined how snow maintenance and clearance crews will be out in full force once the white powder hits the ground. The City is asking residents to make sure their vehicles are parked away from roads during and immediately after snowfall so the crews can effectively do their jobs.

The City detailed how cars parked on the street hinder the crews' ability to clear and sand the roads while also reducing the width of streets, which combined with ice, threatens drivers' safety. Cars parked on the street also extend the clean-up time, as plow trucks often have to return to the same areas once vehicles move, wasting time and resources.

The City asks car owners to wait until roads have been plowed and sanded after a snowfall before they park their cars on the streets.
