ENDERBY - The City of Enderby will be taking its primary water source offline beginning on September 28, 2015.

During this time, City of Enderby drinking water customers will be served entirely by its secondary source, a well.

Based on average daily flows at this time of year, the secondary source can supply typical use.

However, water users are invited to voluntarily reduce unnecessary water consumption. This will help to maintain reservoir levels during peak hourly demand.  It will also help in the event of a major fire or an interruption in secondary source production.

The primary water source, which is a raw water intake on the Shuswap River, will be temporarily removed from service for repairs to the floor of a filter that is used for cleansing river water.

Filtration is one of several forms of treatment that river water receives at the City of Enderby Water Treatment Plant in order to make it safe to drink.

The repairs are anticipated to take 5 to 7 days, but may be extended pending the results of the condition assessment.

The repairs involve removing filter sand and internal components, fixing the floor and re-installing the internal components, adding the replacement filter sand, and then disinfecting the system.

After the filter has been verified as free of bacteria, it will be returned to service.

Interior Health has been notified of the planned repair.
