KAMLOOPS – Council is being asked to continue overseeing the Homelessness Partnering Strategy funding for the next five year cycle, which begins April 2014, allowing the local working group to continue tackling homelessness in the community.
With just over $1 million in funding allocated from June 2012 to the end of the cycle in March 2014 many groups were able to take steps towards helping those already homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. The Homelessness Action Plan has played a key role in these initiatives and has given the city a clearer picture on what needs to be done to address the issue.
City staff expects the investments over the five year period will be substantial. Once the funding amounts are released priority areas for funding will be determined.
Earlier this year it was announced the federal government will be providing funding under the Economic Action Plan 2013 for another five years to deal with homelessness in designated communities.
