PENTICTON - Local citizens are taking the election campaign into their own hands and educating themselves about the candidates and the issues in the upcoming civic vote.

Members the community Facebook group Educate Encourage Empower Penticton have organized two candidate forums; one for the candidates for council and one for mayoral candidates.

Candidates must RSVP to the events, and so far, the majority of candidates have signed up for one of the events, however some did not respond to the invitation, says organizer Tracy Van Raes.

Empower group members came up with 16 questions to ask the candidates — seven will be drawn at random the first night, with one particular question being asked both nights, according to Van Raes.

The candidates attending Part 1 are Andre Martin, Patrick Bunchanan, Ryan Foster, David Korinetz, Steve Boultbee, Jenine Nicholas, Brent Madsen, Darryl Sandman Sanders, Campbell Watt, Kevin Noonan and Jukka Laurio.

Those attending Part 2  include Helena Konanz, Tarik Sayeed, Garry B. Gratton, Dom Dumesnil, Judy Sentes, Katie Robinson, Paula Cattani, Brian Henningson, Max PIcton, Vic Powell, Andrew Jakubeit and John Vassilaki.

The forums are being held on Nov. 5, 2014 and Nov. 10, 2014 at Dogtown Cafe in Penticton at 5 p.m. Anyone wishing to attend must RSVP on Facebook since space is limited.
